SOME OF E'S FAVORITE music (SO FAR)
These are only what I have posted on Facebook since starting the page in July of last year. Of course, my list is infinite! I will try to update it weekly. Each song title links to their respective video.
BILLY PORTER: FOR WHAT IT’S WORTH
1966 Buffalo Springfield song, just as relevant today. VOTE!!!!!
BECK: THE HEART IS A DRUM
From his 2015 Grammy winning album Morning Phase. Something to think about…
THE BEATLES; HERE COMES THE SUN
What they play at Lenox Hill Hospital here in NYC when a coronavirus patient is released.
KACEY MUSGRAVES: SLOW BURN
Good meditation for the pandemic…
CONNIE TALBOT: ALL I NEED
Discovered on 2007’s Britain’s Got Talent, and I found out about her from a follower in response to my Grace Vanderwaal tweet!
WHILE MY GUITAR GENTLY WEEPS: GEORGE HARRISON
Featuring two of my major loves/influences, Prince and Tom Petty. The one where Prince throws his up guitar up into the air, after an epic solo, and it doesn’t come down!!
GRACE VANDERWAAL: TODAY AND TOMORROW
Caught a performance by Grace Vanderwaal on Jimmy Kimmel, and was touched by this song. Apparently discovered on AGT, she is still just 16. More young-uns taking over with their old souls...
THE CURE: FRIDAY I’M IN LOVE
Robert Smith and the Cure, surely one of my top 3 influences. When this song came out, yes, that Friday I was in love...
JUSTIN BIEBER: LIFE IS WORTH LIVING
During the long years when I was profoundly suicidal, I started a then experimental ketamine treatment. Got to where every time I went deep into the K-hole, I would listen to Bieber’s Purpose album, and somehow, when I heard this song, I believed it.
PATTI SCIALFA: STATE OF GRACE
Discovered this song years ago on an old Paste Magazine CD...
JUICE WRLD: RIGHTEOUS
Found out about this song by the late Juice Wrld last night. He died last year at 21 after a long struggle with addiction. It is time that we recognize that mental illness is the shadow behind addiction. It is both beautiful and heartbreaking...
BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN: STREETS OF PHILADELPHIA
Springsteen's most deservedly Oscar winning tune. Amazing film, heart wrenching song that made a lot of people, including me, cry. Apropos right now
BILL WITHERS: USE ME
Really want to honor Bill Withers, one of my all time favorites. One of the few covers I performed live with my band in the early 2000's, in a small club in NYC. I actually got a scream from the audience when singing this song! RIP Mr. Withers.
THE FRAY: OVER MY HEAD
I loved it when it came out, and I still love it now…
THE 1975: GIVE YOURSELF A TRY Good one for now…
NEIL YOUNG: HEART OF GOLD
One of my all time favorite songs/artists
DIXIE CHICKS: THE LONG WAY AROUND
This is great live version of the title song, to which the entire record is brilliant, and which shows what ass-kickers they are! Highly recommended.
ENGLISH BEAT: SAVE IT FOR LATER
Another all time fave that I always wanted to cover live but never did…
JOSEPH ARTHUR: CAN’T EXIST
Found this guy through being compared to him in an interview! Learned about a lot of people I had never heard of that way…
JUSTIN BIEBER: AT LEAST FOR NOW
Don't get me wrong, I have loved Justin Bieber ever since I saw his Never Say Never doc. That said, I really don’t like his new record Changes, but this is a beautiful and timely exception.
FOR KING & COUNTRY + Dolly Parton: GOD ONLY KNOWS
Heard this on the radio driving home after smiling through my birthday dinner even though I was actually heartbroken. It spoke to me, all right.
As I said on Valentine’s Day, this was the best I could do. For those in love, good luck with that, for those who love, good for you!
PRINCE: PURPLE RAIN / SUPER BOWL XLI HALFTIME SHOW
This clip is just one example of why Prince is one of my heroes!
SOUNDGARDEN: FELL ON BLACK DAYS
When posting this I commented that I didn’t believe “God” never gave us more than we can handle. Tell that to Chris Cornell, Kurt Cobain, three of my most kind and closest friends, and many others…
DEMI LOVATO: ANYONE
Probably the most authentic and heart wrenching live performance I’ve ever seen.
My favorite song from a band which gifted me with two collaborators, my beloved Fred Smith, and the brilliant guitarist Richard Lloyd. (Lloyd, by the way was the only person Tom Verlaine shared writing credit with, on this one song.)
TIANA MAJOR9, EARTHGANG: COLLIDE
Just a gorgeous song.
TOM PETTY: WILDFLOWERS
One of my faves of all time, title song from one of my favorite records of all time!
MAREN MORRIS: GIRL
Hear this on the radio several times and was struck by it, but it took some digging for me to find out who it was…
I’ve loved Beck since Loser broke out in the 90’s, but this is my favorite song of his, (which is saying a lot) because of it’s subtle romanticism. Love subtlety!
THE SMITHEREENS: BLOOD AND ROSES
Met the Smithereens when I photographed them, nicest guys ever, especially Pat DiNizio, who, when I told him I was planning a move to NYC advised me to move to Red Hook. RIP Pat.
RYAN ADAMS: THIS HOUSE IS NOT FOR SALE
This song always reminds me of my ex-husband, and for a long time made me cry.
AIMEE MANN: 4TH OF JULY
A brilliant songwriter, and a song that I tried to sing when I was in LA desperately taking voice lessons at the same time I was losing my voice.
THE CURE: LOVESONG
One of my biggest influences, and one of the best bands of all time.
DAVID BOWIE: CHANGES
What can you say about Bowie that hasn’t already been said. Just that we loved him!
MACHINE GUN KELLY FEAT. NAOMI WILD: GLASS HOUSE
Strangely, this came out after my own “Glass House.” Guess it’s in the zeitgeist.
TALKING HEADS: THIS MUST BE THE PLACE
My favorite TH song, and one of my favorite romantic songs ever. Yes, I like it subtle!
DAN + SHAY: TEQUILA
This song just makes me cry every time.
MADONNA: RAY OF LIGHT
When I first heard this, I thought it was Madonna, but it was so different, I had to confirm it. As far as I’m concerned, her greatest accomplishment.
DREW HOLCOMB & THE NEIGHBORS
Another artist I discovered through a playlist I was included in… Especially relevant now.
NEIL YOUNG: OLD MAN
Just a young Neil and a guitar, gorgeous.
PRINCE: WHEN DOVES CRY
Another hero, and one of the best songs ever!
SIA: ELASTIC HEART
This is one of the songs I wish I had written. And that I wish were true about me.
SUGAR: HOOVER DAM
Great song, off of Bob Mould/ Sugar’s brilliant record Copper Blue
MACHINE GUN KELLY, YUNGBLUD, TRAVIS BARKER: I THINK I’M OKAY
Yeah, I’ve now been obsessed with this song for a year, thankfully, now I only have to listen to it once a day, as opposed to 30!
KATY PERRY: WIDE AWAKE
A deep song by a songwriter that should be MUCH more respected than some other popularly lauded songwriters I will not name!
U2: EVEN BETTER THAN THE REAL THING
What can I say? I thought I was in love.
OUTKAST: HEY YA!
When all of the four sisters gathered in Nashville to surprise the youngest to celebrate her birthday, we all danced to this.
PETER GABRIEL: DIGGING IN THE DIRT
Brilliant song, brilliant songwriter. What we all should be doing…
CHILDISH GAMBINO: THIS IS AMERICA
Probably one of the most effective, profound and timely videos/ songs ever.
HALSEY: WITHOUT ME
One of my top three of 2019.
KACEY MUSGRAVES: OH, WHAT A WORLD
Beautiful song, maybe we should pay more attention…
TROYE SIVAN: BLOOM
One of my first HUGE obsessions of 2019! Shared it with anyone who would let me!
